Fast Track Assistance

Layover & Connection Tips

  • Fort Lauderdale Airport has four separate terminals and they are not all connected airside. Some transfers require exit from security, use of shuttle or walking routes..
  • Terminal 4 is responsible for most of the international flights and US customs processing.
  • Early mornings and weekends have heavy traffic because of the movement of cruise passengers.
  • Lounge availability is at its best in Terminals 1 and 4.
  • International arrivals must clear U.S. immigration even in the case of connecting onward.

  • There is no airside transit hotel; there are hotels nearby that provide frequent shuttle services.
  • Free Wi-Fi is available at all terminals without having to re-log in.
  • Baggage has to be reclaimed and rechecked after the customs for international connections.
  • Airline apps give the quickest updates on gate changes and delays.
  • Recommended minimum layovers:
  • Domestic to domestic: 75 minutes to 90 minutes
  • Domestic to international: 2 hours
  • International to domestic: 2.5–3 hours
  • In case you are travelling with elderly, ask for mobility assistance early on, especially on cruise peak days.
  • You get the best Runway views from gates near west-facing gates in Terminals 3 and 4.
